Description The 14th Republican National Convention assembled in the Coliseum, Chicago IL. There were 980 delegates: two per electoral vote and two per territory.

The convention had few areas of disagreement to tend to. The report of the credentials committee was accepted without debate, and the permanent chairman was accepted similarly. The first roll call vote came on a proposal to reduce Southern delegations to future conventions, which lost by a vote of 506 to 471.

Robert LaFollette sponsored a number of minority planks which all failed in the convention. They were: publication of campaign contributions (880-94), federal evaluation of railroad safety (917-63), direct election of U.S. Senators (866-114).

The convention nominated the national ticket with a near unanimous vote: Taft for President by a 702-278 scattering and Sherman by 816 to 164 scattering.

Nominees:
For President - William Howard Taft (OH)
For Vice President - James S. Sherman (NY)

Temporary Chairman: Julius C. Burrows (MI)
Permanent Chairman: Henry C. Lodge (MA)
