Description BBC Profile:
The constituency has been represented since its creation in 1997 by Conservative MP Michael Fabricant, who increased his majority from 238 votes to more than 7,000 at the 2005 election.

At the election, there have been minor changes to Lichfield's boundaries. The seat gains Needwood ward from Burton, as well as the part of Yoxall ward that was also in Burton's boundaries. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Lichfield is an affluent seat situated in south-east Staffordshire created in the 1995 boundary changes from parts of four other constituencies; it includes the cathedral city from which the constituency takes its name, the town of Burntwood and surrounding Staffordshire villages.

The largest urban area in this seat is the city of Lichfield, a historic market town made famous by its cathedral. There are many Birmingham and West Midlands commuters here. There was a great deal of residential expansion during the 1980s and 1990s.

In total, a fifth of constituents are managers or senior officials, while there are fewer working in elementary occupations than the national average.
