Description BBC Profile:
Aldridge-Brownhills was created in 1974, largely from the former mining constituencies of Brownhills, Pelsall and Walsall Wood. Labour's Geoffrey Edge took the seat in the two general elections of that year. His majority in February 1974 was 366 votes.

The Conservative victory of 1979 gave the seat to Richard Shepherd. He has held it ever since, currently with a majority of over 5,000 votes.

At the next election, boundary changes mean it will be formed of six wards: Aldridge Central and South, Aldridge North and Walsall Wood, Brownhills, Pelsall, Rushall-Shelfield and Streetly. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Aldridge-Brownhills is a predominantly middle-class, residential seat that sits just outside the northern fringes of the West Midlands conurbation among the suburbs of Walsall.

The constituency has two halves. Aldridge is predominantly a residential community, while Brownhills is an ex-mining and industrial town.

The unchanged Streetly ward to the south east is close in character to neighbouring Sutton Coldfield: an affluent residential area.
