BBC Profile:
The Borough of Islington had three constituencies until 1983 when Islington Central was abolished and only North and South remained. Labour's Jeremy Corbyn won the Islington North seat in 1983 and has held it ever since. He polled almost 70% of the vote in 1997 and 51.2% in 2005.
There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.
Islington North spans Hillrise ward in the north to Mildmay and Highbury in the south. Arsenal's new football stadium, The Emirates, falls within its borders and geographically it is the smallest seat in the UK.
The constituency's close proximity to Upper Street in Islington South makes it attractive to young professionals, many of whom live around the Holloway Road.
There is a large student population, with the University of North London campus of the Metropolitan University situated close to Holloway Road.
The opening of Arsenal's new football stadium, the Emirates, has caused the area to the east of the Holloway Road to become far busier, particularly on match days.
