Description |
Louis Butler, then a judge on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, was nominated by Governor Jim Doyle to take the place of Diane Sykes, who resigned from the court to become a justice of the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
With his appointment, Butler became the first African-American Supreme Court justice in Wisconsin history.
