The PSL is a revolutionary Marxist political party with affiliates around the world. The party views the "most important ... of all tasks" as "building a new revolutionary workers party in the heart of world imperialism." It supports Fidel Castro as well as the mainland Chinese government.
The party announced in its online Liberation newsletter on 1/18/2008 that it had nominated a national ticket of Gloria LaRiva for President and Eugene Puryear for Vice President.
The party worked to gain ballot access, and it appeared on the ballot in 12 states: AR, CO, FL, IA, LA, NJ, NY, RI, UT, and VT. It was a remarkable feat for a new, small political party, especially given the poor performance of the WWP in the previous decade. The party hoped to field additional candidates for other offices but was disappointed in that endeavor. The La Riva-Puryear ticket won 6,808 popular votes in the election.
