Democrats currently hold a 5 - 2 advantage on the Bergen County Freeholder Board, control which they wrested away from Republicans in 2000 and then again in 2002.
Republicans had been a long time majority in Bergen County, but the election of a Democratic Freeholder Board and Democratic Executive for the first time ever raise questions about whether or not this will be a continuing trend.
If Republicans cannot win freeholder seats this year, they will have to struggle in 2004 to hold on to their current two seats, or Democrat will win complete 7-0 control of the board.
