Muhlenberg was elected on the second ballot. On the first ballot, he and Logan were tied with 45 votes each to one for Jones. On the second ballot, Muhlenberg received 46 votes to 45 for Logan.
Sen. Muhlenberg resigned on 6/30/1801.
