Description |
A recall effort was launched against Governor Evan Mecham beginning in May of 1987. A sufficient number of signatures were gathered, and the contest was headed to the ballot, until Mecham was impeached, and by a 4-1 vote, the State Supreme Court cancelled the recall election.
Well over 100 candidates took out petition papers to run, the signature requirement being 3,336 to qualify for the ballot.
Listed here are some of the main candidates to file.
In Arizona, the candidate facing the recall can run in the election to try and retain their seat.
Rose Mofford is listed as the winner, as the court ruling, in effect, continued her term as Governor until the regular end of the term.
