I think Hynes took a huge step towards wrapping this thing up with this endorsement. He needs to keep his fundraising going though to compete with Hull at least a little bit. Have there been any articles on how much money he has raised recently?

Personally, I never thought Hynes dropped out of the favorite spot.
Danny Davis? The thought makes me laugh.

Well Politics1.com has DKD as a potential candidate, so I'll just add him for now... even if it does sound extremely far fetched.

The Davis rumour started in Sneed's column, which isn't particularly reliable. But someone is clearly floating it, whether it's Davis or someone who wants to put a dent in Obama's campaign. My guess is that it won't go beyond the trial baloon stage, but you never know.

Starting in Sneed gives it low credibility. I guess the only thing that does lend credibility to the rumor is that Davis has not denied it yet.

Interesting 2nd quarter numbers. The big surprise is Obama who raised 878,000 and has a total of 1.07 million on hand. Very impressive. Chico's fundraising fell off to 470,000 (and a total of 1.34 million on hand). He's in trouble. Hynes came in just about as expected with 930,000 for the quarter and 1.54 million on hand. Hull's numbers don't really matter because they're all from himself and for all practical purposes, he has infinity.
These numbers suggest that Hynes will probably raise at least 4 million (and probably more than 5, since fundraising tends to pick up as the election nears). Obama will be close behind, They will have enough to run major league, statewide campaigns. I doubt anyone else will be anywhere close to that. If Pappas wants to be competitive, she better get moving. Right now it looks like a hotly contested 3-person race.

Teehee. If Pappas is out, then my support goes to Hynes, I suppose. I only wish Jan Schakowsky had run.

On the radio today they announced that Bobby Rush endorsed Hull. Any thoughts on what that means?

Revenge on Obama, and some other ulterior motive. It's a tough one to analyze without knowing more.

I suppose symbolically it gives Hull credibility since he's a prominent african american leader and a congressman. He did very effective radio ads for topinka (yes I listen to WGCI). But I think Rush can also be a polarizing figure in some areas of the state and having him as chairman of the campaign can become controversial. Plus Mayor Daley can't be thrilled about it since Rush ran against him, although that was a while ago. I'm pretty good at contradicting myself, huh?

I heard somewhere he was trying to screw Obama to help Hynes, whose father had a lot to do with his election to Congress.

Rush hates Obama for primarying him. He wanted to split the black for the Senate race. This would screw Obama. I guess he likes Hull.

"I thought Rush was supporting Joyce Washington in order to screw Obama."
-He was supposedly the driving force behind her entering the race. The difference is that Hull has money and Washington is way underfunded.
