Declined to serve; see (Charleston) Columbia Herald, January 30, 1795. Never served in Congress. Not mentioned in the Directory. Although the date of his announcement that he would not serve was not found, this probably happened in early December 1794. The proclamation of the results of the election was issued by the governor on December 4, 1794, and the special election was held on January 19-20, 1795. See Secretary of State, Miscellaneous Records, Volume A, pp. 266-267.
