Data SourcesNorth Carolina Manual 1911, N.C. Year Book 1909. The Manual did not provide the breakdown for minor candidates; Guilford's breakdown comes from the Greensboro Patriot, 11/11/1908.
Description In 1908, NC's Fifth Congressional District was first called the "Imperial Fifth," a nickname that continued in use until 1932 when the Imperial Fifth was divided into two districts. The label continued in occasional use thereafter for the Fifth District (1933 to 1943).

Republican nomination
The Republican district convention was held in Greensboro on 9/2/1908. The delegates nominated Morehead unanimously (Greensboro Daily News, 9/3/1908).

Prohibition nomination
The Prohibition state committee met in Greensboro on 9/8/1908 and nominated Blair for US House (Greensboro Daily News, 9/9/1908).

Notes on result
The scattering votes were cast for W.A. Blair (4), J. Allen Holt (1 - Guilford County), and J.E. Fields (1).
