Description |
LAP nomination
The Liberal Anti-Prohibition Party held its convention in Greensboro on 8/7/1884, the same day as the Republican district convention. The delegates wanted to nominate a joint candidate, but the Republicans were in the process of their bandwagon for Wheeler. The LAP delegates thus nominated Winston (Wilmington Morning Star, 8/12/1884).
GOP-LAP Replacement Nominee
Leaders of the Republican and Liberal Anti-Prohibition Parties met on 8/29/1884. Among other things, they discussed a joint nominee for the 5th CD and nominated Edwards (Greensboro North State, 9/4/1884).
Note on Term of Office
Reid resigned on 12/31/1886, having been defeated for re-election, and he moved to Idaho.
