The SDP and PDS formed a coalition re-electing Wowereit Governing Mayor after talks of a SDP, Green, FDP coalition broke down. Gysi was the lead candidate for the PDS. The PDS were the big winners and joined the coalition after the election. Support for the CDU tumbled significantly.
