Republican nomination
The Republican district convention met in Cleveland Springs on 4/7/1928. The delegates nominated Jonas for US House unanimously on the first ballot, over his personal objection (Charlotte News, 4/8/1928).
The Republican victory here and in CD 10 in 1928 were the only GOP congressional wins in North Carolina between 1914 and 1952.
