Description

Eugene Talmadge died before his inauguration. The legislature elected Herman Talmadge to the vacancy, but the state supreme court declared his election unconstitutional and placed Ellis G. Arnall back in office. Arnall then immediately resigned and was succeeded by the lieutenant governor.
