Description |
The 14th Socialist Party National Convention assembled in the Hotel Hollenden in Cleveland OH. An interesting plank in its platform was a call for a "peace income tax," to be levied on everyone in the world to fund the United Nations. Norman Thomas made it clear that he would not run a seventh time for president. Three men were placed in nomination for president: Darlington Hoopes, Wm A. Briggs CA, and Samuel H. Friedman. Briggs and Friedman withdrew, and Hoopes was nominated unanimously. Friedman was nominated for VP.
