Description |
Horace Eaton fell 1,586 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1847. The joint assembly convened on October 14 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. On what appears to be the first ballot, when the ballots were taken and counted, Horace Eaton was elected. Crockett (III, 365) says the vote was Eaton 125 (54.6%), Dillingham 85 (37.1%), and Brainerd 19 (8.3%).
