Description |
William Slade fell 1,361 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1845. The joint assembly convened on October 11 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case if the office of Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. On what appears to be the first ballot, when the ballots were taken and counted, William Slade was elected. Slade received 132 (59.7%), Kellogg 75 (33.9%), and Shafter 11 (4.9%), according to the Journal.
