Description |
William Palmer fell 2,081 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1831. The joint assembly convened on October 14 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. Palmer was elected on the 9th ballot, receiving 114 of 227 ballots cast (50.2%). Allen received 36 (15.9%), Crafts 35 (15.4%), and Meech 42 (18.5%).
Note that Samuel Crafts received 35 legislative votes although he was not one of the top three finishers in the General Election.
