That means that Whitehouse has an energized base. Chafee, however, will be going into the general election with a divided Republican primary vote...exactly like Joe Lieberman.

LOL... oh boy. This race is different from that circus you have going on in Connecticut. Unlike most of you, I would be happy with either Laffey or Chafee in the Senate.

The Dems still have a fairly good chance at winning this seat, it's just going to be a lot tougher than it could have been.

Time to move Chafee to the front lines of the battle. To get to Talent and DeWine you'll have to spend a few bucks getting through Chafee. THAT'S his service to the party.

WE DID IT!!! Now all we have to do is reach out to moderate Democratc and independent voters to win this race. With Laffey, that would have been impossible.

This will still be a big race in the general-Chafee barely won, and I doubt many of the Laffey voters will be going to him (they'll either stay at home or, if they were Democrats being sneaky for the general, will vote for Whitehouse).

"I doubt many of the Laffey voters will be going to him (they'll either stay at home or, if they were Democrats being sneaky for the general, will vote for Whitehouse)." --Buddy
My guess is that the GOP Laffey voters will show up for Carcieri in the governor's race. And once in the polling booth I suspect that they will hold their nose (hard) and vote for Chafee over Whitehouse.

That sound you're hearing in Washington is the DSCC booing this result.
Well, it appears the DSCC and conservative Republicans are doing pretty much the same thing.
This is a good win for the GOP. They avoided a sure loss by renominating Chafee.
