Description | Center-right opposition party founded by Vojislav Koštunica, the last President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (2000-2003), and the first Prime Minister of the independent Republic of Serbia (May 21, 2006 - July 7, 2008). Party was one of two "democratic" parties claiming to be successors of the defunct Yugoslav Democratic Party (aka, the Democratic Community, disbanded in 1948), the other being the center-left Democratic Party (Демократска странка, DS) established on February 3, 1990. Party began to fade when Koštunica resigned in 2014 (it subsequently lost all of its seats in Serbia's legislatures). Leadership decided to restructure the party, rebranding and re-registering it as the New Democratic Party of Serbia (Нова демократска странка Србије) on May 29, 2022 [Demokratska stranka Srbije (DSS)]. |
