Description | Center-right party founded by Romania's former President Traian Băsescu (December 20, 2004 – December 21, 2014). Băsescu's attempt to merge his party on July 12, 2016 with that of Gabriel Oprea's, the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR), met with failure in mid-2018, a blow to both of their national-level ambitions. Party's subsequent dwindling fortunes brought about a change of leadership in the form of jurist Cristian Diaconescu on March 7, 2021 [Partidul Mișcarea Populară (PMP)].
