Marxist–Leninist party begun as the Socialist Workers' Party of Greece (S.E.K.E.) and currently Greece's fourth largest with 15 deputies in Parliament. Party was banned under the dictatorship of Metaxas in 1936, and disintegrated during the Greek-Italian War (1940-41). Party re-formed after WWII with ambitions to overthrow the Greek government and establish a Greek Soviet State during the Greek Civil War (1946-1949) through its "Democratic Army of Greece" (DSE). Legalization of the KKE was restored following the fall of the Greek junta in 1974. Party has been led by its general secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas since 2013 [Κομμουνιστικό Κόμμα Ελλάδος (K.K.E.)].
