| Description | The Anti-Masonic Party was formed in 1826 and became a significant political force in the North. It took control of several states and became the chief opposition party in other states. The party merged into the Whig Party in 1836, although some state affiliates survived ino the early 1840s. A later Anti-Masonic Party ran nominees for President during the years 1876--1888. |
