Description | After 22 years in the U.S. Senate, Frank Murkowski, a strong advocate of more drilling in oil-rich Alaska, hopes to become his state's first Republican to be elected governor since 1978.
But before he can succeed two-term Democratic Gov. Tony Knowles, barred by state law from running for reelection, Murkowski must win Tuesday's primary and beat the probable Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer. |
