Description | Illinois Republican leaders said Friday that some party members are worried about the possibility of Jack Ryan capturing the U.S. Senate nomination only to be hobbled in the general election by questions about his divorce.
Party Chairwoman Judy Baar Topinka said she had been getting phone calls and could only tell concerned callers that Ryan has promised his divorce records contain no embarrassing information.
"I consider him an honest man, and I take him at his word," said Topinka, who is also the state treasurer.
State Sen. Dave Syverson, a member of the Republican State Central Committee, said Ryan should let an outsider such as Topinka review the files and reassure voters about the contents.
Topinka said she made such an offer but Ryan turned her down. |
