B.C. Liberal government falls on historic non-confidence vote

| Description | VICTORIA — B.C.’s Liberal government has been defeated on a confidence vote in the legislature, forcing the resignation of Premier Christy Clark and potentially ending 16 years of Liberal rule in the province.
An alliance of NDP and Green MLAs passed a motion of non-confidence in the Liberals by a vote of 44 to 42 (the 43rd Liberal MLA was Speaker Steve Thomson, who did not vote).
Clark will now tender her resignation to Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon.
Guichon could ask NDP Leader John Horgan to form a government and become B.C.’s 36th premier. Or, she could call a new election.
Clark is expected to speak to the media after delivering her resignation to Guichon later this evening.
Guichon’s office is then expected to issue a news release on her decision, potentially as soon as Thursday evening. |
