Description | Offices in the U.S. Capitol were put under lockdown after reports of gunshots being fired outside.
Police are broadcasting an alert to remain locked in offices.
“There is a report of gunfire on Capitol Hill,” the alert being broadcast on loudspeaker said. ”Shelter in place.”
Police were seen swarming outside the building. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D., Va.) was on a balcony on the south side of the Capitol and said he heard what he thought were seven or eight gunshots in rapid succession. Police were ushering tourists away from the west front of the Capitol. |
