DescriptionThe presumed Democratic frontrunner for the 2014 governor's race has rejected the state party's recent call for a moratorium on fracking, a campaign spokeswoman said Friday.

U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-Montgomery County, does not agree with the resolution passed by the state party last weekend asking for a moratorium until the effects of fracking in Pennsylvania can be studied more closely.

“Allyson Schwartz believes calling for a moratorium on natural gas extraction is misguided,” campaign spokeswoman Reesa Kossoff said in an email.

Earlier Kossoff redirected questions about Schwartz's position on the resolution to the policies of incumbent Republican Gov. Tom Corbett. She reiterated the attack in her subsequent statement.

“Furthermore, Pennsylvania wouldn't have a debate about a natural-gas extraction moratorium if we had a governor who had a vision to ensure that Pennsylvania leads in natural gas, has a commitment for doing it safely and responsibly, and a strategy for keeping the energy right here in Pennsylvania where it can lower energy costs, attract new manufacturing, and create jobs for Pennsylvanians,” Kossoff said."
