Description | NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain decided to announce here Friday he won’t run for governor in front of those who know him best at the largest annual gathering of farmers in the state.
And those attending the Farm Bureau Federation 91st annual meeting rewarded him with rousing applause.
Strain had said early in 2012 he planned to run for the state’s top office in 2015, but on Friday the commissioner said he wants “to keep the job I love,” at least for now.
“I’ve always said I’d go where I can best serve,” Strain said during the federation’s general session Friday afternoon. “So I tell you today I’ve searched my heart and know what I must do.
“I will not run for governor in 2015 and will run again for agriculture commissioner and ask for your support. There may be a time in the future (for a gubernatorial run), but this job is not done.” |
