DescriptionSheboygan’s youngest Common Council candidate is hoping to fulfill a dream he’s had since elementary school, when he began following politics the way some kids take to sports.

Now 19, Asher Heimermann says that if elected, he’ll bring a level of “honesty and accountability” that he feels is lacking on the Common Council.

But first, Heimermann, who owns and operates the Sheboygan Daily website, will have to overcome a number of critics, who fear that while ambitious and intelligent, the teen would be a negative presence in City Hall.

As evidence, they point to the considerable political baggage they feel that the teen has accumulated, despite being less than a year removed from high school and never having held elected office.

Heimermann’s alleged misdeeds range from sending crude emails to aldermen and creating a fake Twitter account impersonating former mayor Bob Ryan, to engaging in dubious political fund-raising activities.

Those concerns were enough to convince Sixth District incumbent Bill Wangemann to change his mind about retiring and enter the race this month as a write-in candidate, running against Heimermann and Mark Hermann. The 77-year-old is now believed to be the only sitting alderman to ever run for his own seat through a write-in campaign.
