Description | "In perhaps the most bizarre Pennsylvania political news of the day, Pittsburgh television station KDKA reported this morning that state Rep. Jesse White, D-Washington, seems to be publicly attacking some of his own constituents with fake online accounts.
The investigative report found that White’s computer was used to post several comments under a variety of aliases on local websites discussing natural gas drilling. The fake accounts personally attacked residents who were expressing views in support of gas drilling.
The television station also found the anti-drilling website GasRootsPA.com, which “chastises drilling supporters as ‘whores’ and regularly praises White,” was actually registered by White.
KDKA confronted White about what they had found, but he declined to comment on the allegations.
Here’s another wrinkle for you.
Last year, state Rep. Kathy Watson, R-Bucks, introduced a bill to make “online impersonation” a crime punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of $5,000.
As Melissa Daniels reported at the time, the bill was aimed at “cyber-bullying.” Though that might normally be a problem associated with schools and teenagers, perhaps it extends to members of the General Assembly as well.
The bill progressed from the House Judiciary Committee with a vote of 22-1 and was passed by the full House in October with a vote of 196-1.
On both occasions, White was the lone negative vote." |
