Description | Laura Bush’s spokeswoman said Wednesday that the former first lady did not approve the use of her 2010 comments about same-sex marriage in an ad by the Respect for Marriage Coalition, and has asked that the footage be removed.
“When [Mrs. Bush] became aware of the advertisement last night, we requested that the group remove her from it,” Anne McDonald told the Dallas Morning News in a statement.
The coalition, which is co-chaired by Freedom to Marry and the Human Rights Campaign, listed Bush, Colin Powell and former vice president Dick Cheney among the political figures featured in the ad campaign. The first ads aired Wednesday, and the group said they would be in heavy rotation on cable news and Sunday news shows in the coming weeks. |
