Description | Historically, candidates which lose their home states lose the Presidency. Over the past 13 elections, only two candidates, Al Gore and George McGovern, failed to carry their home states. Even Walter Mondale, who lost against Reagan’s landslide, carried his home state — the only state he did carry, alongside of the District of Columbia.
The Guardian newspaper from the United Kingdom has found by poll comparisons that Romney is currently in danger of losing his home state by a record 17%, worse than any previous case. Gore lost Tennessee by just under 4% and McGovern lost South Dakota by just under 9%. |
