Description | One person was killed and another critically injured after a shooting at a victory speech by Quebec's newly-elected premier, Montreal police said.
Pauline Marois, who will be the first female premier of Quebec, was rushed off stage when gunfire rang out around midnight Tuesday, CNN affiliate CBC reported. She was not harmed.
Police arrested a suspect, believed to be about 50 years old.
"We don't know what was (behind) that event," Constable Danny Richer told CBC. "Our investigators are going to meet with him overnight."
As the suspect was dragged toward the police cruiser, CBC reported, he shouted in French: "The English are waking up!" He appeared to be wearing a bathrobe or housecoat. |
