Description | Newton Leroy Gingrich is a very intelligent and accomplished person. He spent 20 years in the United States House of Representatives slowly but steadily rising through the ranks until his election as the first Republican Speaker of the House since John Martin, who was elected in 1953. Gingrich served as Speaker for two terms until his sudden resignation from Congress after Democrats gained seats in the House because of voter disgust over the Clinton impeachment and the events that took place prior to.
Then he disappeared. The Gingrich brand was toxic and Democrats used him as a bogeyman so Gingrich kept a low profile opting out of the Presidential races in 2000 and 2004. What he did instead was he wrote books. He went on the lecture circuit. He consulted Republican candidates and campaigned for him. |
