| Description | For most of his adult life, N.C. House candidate Dana Byron Bumgardner has been warding off rumors that he has a criminal record, with convictions for assaulting females and other offenses.
The gossip seems to stem from him sharing a first and last name, and the same relative age, as another Gastonia resident who has frequently run afoul of the law. Since the 57-year-old Republican launched a campaign for the state Legislature, he said he’s learned those recurring falsehoods are being used against him as part of a political smear campaign.
So Bumgardner, who is seeking the District 109 House seat, has decided to fight back. He forwarded copies of a letter from his attorney to his three Republican opponents this week. The letter essentially warns them of legal recourse in the event of libel or slander against his name. |
