Description | Mitt Romney fit like a political glove for a majority of the 130 or so Republican caucus-goers at Highland Middle School on Saturday, with libertarian Ron Paul showing that he has a considerable following in Washington.
The backing for Romney was businesslike: The candidate's lack of charisma is acknowledged, but he is seen as the most electable of the four Republicans still vying for their party's presidential nomination.
Republicans gathered at tables in the dining room, went about the business of electing precinct delegates, and cast votes in a straw poll. The results have no bearing on how the GOP's national convention slate will look, but will provide the winner with a useful national headline 48 hours before "SuperTuesday."
Republican State Chairman Kirby Wilbur forecast that about 50,000 Republicans would turn out for the neighborhood meetings. |
