Description | It took only six angry minutes Tuesday to reignite the partisan fury over controversial labor legislation and once again shut down the Indiana House.
House Democrats, who kept that chamber from coming into session for three days last week, refused to come to the floor Tuesday. The protest, which ended a one-day truce that had allowed the House to hold its only official day of business on Monday, was triggered by a committee hearing in which Republicans refused to allow any testimony, debate or Democratic amendments.
Tuesday, even some of the handful of Democrats who have not participated in the walkout were angered by how the GOP handled the hearing.
Rep. Peggy Welch, a Bloomington Democrat who has not taken part in the boycott, decided to join her colleagues in the walkout Tuesday after watching a recording of the hearing. |
