Description | There are several reasons to believe that Walker will be successfully recalled and several that point to the Governor surviving the attempt.
The first reason Walker and other Republicans should worry is the fact that the enthusiasm gap clearly favors the Democrats in this elections. In 2011, both parties attempted to recall eight Senators each. Democrats succeeded in 75 percent of these while Republicans only succeeded in 37.5 percent.
Turnout in the Democratic primaries during the recalls was on average twice as large as turnout in Republican primaries, and every general election saw higher Democratic support in each district over the 2010 levels.
This enthusiasm continues as Wisconsin Democrats are now the only party to push 2012 recalls and appear to be doing so successfully. Doing two successful recalls campaigns in two years would be impossible without massive motivated base and those are the kinds of people that show up in special recall elections.
If turnout is similar throughout the state in 2012 to its 2011 levels in those nine districts, Walker would lose. |
