|Description||"President Barack Obama may feel a little lonely Wednesday during his visit to Scranton, Pa. |
Vice President Joe Biden, a Scranton native, is traveling overseas. And now comes word that Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), another favorite son of the city and Obama ally, may not be there either.
Casey’s attendance is “unlikely,” Casey spokeswoman April Mellody told POLITICO. The reason? Possible votes in the Senate, she said.
The absence is likely to stir up a round of speculation that Casey, who faces reelection next year, isn’t going for other reasons. Republicans have been working overtime to remind Pennsylvania voters of Casey’s relationship with Obama. Casey was the first high-ranking Pennsylvania elected official to endorse Obama during the 2008 Democratic primary, and has remained an ally ever since, although the senator was critical of the president’s jobs plan."
