Description | "It was the icing on the cake of President Barack Obama's 2008 electoral vote total: a single vote out of Nebraska, where electoral votes are apportioned by congressional district and Obama took the Omaha-based 2nd District seat.
Obama won there by a little over 3,000 votes, lifting his nationwide total to 365 and marking the first time in Nebraska history that the state divided its support between two presidential candidates.
Nebraska's Republican governor, Dave Heineman, says there's slim chance it'll happen again in 2012. But he's not prepared to say there's no chance.
"I think [that's] unlikely, but I wouldn't want to say 'no' for sure," Heineman told POLITICO.
Heineman suggested that Obama's fortunes in Nebraska rose largely because his nationwide victory was so large, and noted that the Obama campaign was never looking to Omaha for its 270th vote.
"If it were a closer race nationwide, I'm not sure he'd have won that electoral vote," Heineman said." |
