DescriptionPresident Barack Obama was at the top of Osama bin Laden’s hit list for a planned attack on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, according to an ABC report Friday.

Citing unnamed U.S. officials, the network said that al Qaeda sought to kill the president or the top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. David Petraeus, by shooting down their helicopters or planes.

The terror group was reportedly exploring how it could fire a missile or rocket-propelled grenade at Air Force One or Marine One, but officials said that the attack had not progressed beyond the initial planning stages.

Obama was bin Laden’s main focus, according to the report.

But security officials interviewed by ABC cast doubt on the feasibility of taking down the president’s plane or helicopter, saying both aircraft are equipped with significant countermeasures that would make them difficult targets.
