Description | ormer Rock Island Mayor Mark Schwiebert said today he will not seek the Democratic nomination for the 17th Congressional District seat in Congress next year.
He said a "variety of considerations -- public, professional, and personal -- have led me to the conclusion that running for Congress is not what I am called to do at this point in my life."
Mr. Schwiebert, an attorney with the Snyder, Park, Nelson & Schwiebert law firm in Rock Island, was among more than half a dozen Democrats considering a bid for the chance to oppose U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling, R-Colona, in the newly redrawn 17th Congressional District.
"In addition to professional responsibilities to the Rock Island law firm I joined in January of this year, a number of projects involving the environment and how to tap its challenges and opportunities are of major importance to me," Mr. Schwiebert said. "Other considerations, including service on nearly a dozen boards of worthwhile not-for-profit organizations, also influence this decision." |
