DescriptionMADISON, Wis. (AP) - Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin is moving closer to announcing a bid for the U.S. Senate, telling a Madison newspaper in a story published Tuesday that she is "likely to run" for the seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Herb Kohl.

Baldwin told The Capital Times that she is still gathering more information about a Senate run, but is likely to enter the race.

Baldwin's spokeswoman declined to comment on the report or make Baldwin available to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Baldwin said possibly running for the Senate "is something I take very seriously."

"I think I am likely to run," she said, calling the possibility of serving in the Senate "an amazing opportunity."
