Description | Californians don’t want Arnold back.
Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s approval ratings have hit rock bottom since news leaked of the child he’d fathered with an old household staffer. According to a new Field Poll, three in four California voters now say they view the former governor unfavorably, according to data released today by the California-based Field Poll. Just 20 percent said they still support the ex-governor.
These numbers come in contrast to far better approval ratings during his seven years in Sacramento, when positives reached as high as 64 percent in May 2004, shortly after he first won office in a 2003 recall election.
His numbers are lowest – 10 percent – in Los Angeles county, the home of the Brentwood mansion where Schwarzenegger lived with his wife, Maria Shriver, until she moved out as news of the out-of-wedlock child was going public.
Schwarzenegger’s numbers are now below those of former governors Pete Wilson and Gray Davis – whose own unpopularity led to the recall election propelling Schwarzenegger into office. Before Davis left office, a 2003 Field Poll found that 67 percent of voters viewed him unfavorably. |
