Description | ATLANTA -- Gov. Nathan Deal has served just six months in his four-year term, and yet some social conservatives are looking to stop his re-election.
They see Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain as their best hope, and they're trying to build a grassroots movement to convince him to change from one contest to the other.
Jerry Luquire, head of Georgia's Christian Coalition chapter, has sent e-mails to allies and local supporters as well as plugging it during a recent talk-radio appearance.
Luquire says the time is ripe to launch his movement. He points to negative stories about Deal's campaign hiring his daughter-in-law's fundraising firm and boos he received at last month's Republican state convention when he didn't convince delegates to dump party Chairwoman Sue Everhart.
At the same time, Cain has lost some of his luster recently by muffing foreign-policy questions during national TV interviews. Luquire wants Cain to switch races before he does more damage. |
