DescriptionSoon-to-be-ex-Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley has requested three full-time Chicago Police bodyguards 24/7 in the private sector. His initial request may have been for five. Daley also wants two vehicles at his disposal, one for himself and another for his wife Maggie.

Daley is concerned about safety threats. The Chicago Police Department asked the United States Secret Service if such security was necessary.

Daley was also concerned about his safety in the aftermath of 9/11. At that time he and his wife had recently relocated from Bridgeport to the South loop, and Daley was frightened that someone would crash a plane from Meigs Field into his residence. The result was the closure of Meigs Field and the infamous X’s carved in the runway.

The determination, after the CPD contacted the Secret Service, was that Daley needs the security for an undetermined “period of time.”
