Description Jill Derby, who twice lost to Republican Rep. Dean Heller, says she'll run for his open House seat now that Heller has been appointed to the U.S. Senate.

No Democrat has ever won election to Nevada's 2nd Congressional District seat. Derby lost to Heller in 2006 by 5 percentage points, and by 11 percentage points in 2008.

But with a special election on the horizon, Derby on Wednesday said she has the fundraising abilities and believes she represents the best chance for Democrats to win the seat.
